How do you find a manga from one panel?
You crop the picture to one clean panel and search it with a reverse image search engine that knows manga. MangaTrace does both on one page: it crops in your browser, then sends the panel to the engine you pick. If the art is in an engine's index, you get the title, often with the chapter.
- Add the picture. Drop a file, pick one from your photos, paste a screenshot, or paste an image link.
- Crop to one panel. Cut out speech bubbles, borders, watermarks and any app bar. One clean panel beats a whole page.
- Pick an engine. Start with the first suggested engine. No match? Try the next one before you change the crop.
Which engine works for which image?
Each engine indexes different things, so the best one depends on your picture. This is the order MangaTrace suggests:
| Your picture | Try first | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Black-and-white manga page or panel | SauceNAO | Google Lens, Yandex |
| Colour manhwa or webtoon frame | Google Lens | Yandex, SauceNAO |
| Cover, poster or photo of a book | Google Lens | Bing, Yandex |
| Colour illustration or fan art | IQDB | SauceNAO |
| Frame from a TikTok or Reels edit | Google Lens | Yandex |
SauceNAO and IQDB are built for anime and manga art. Google Lens, Yandex and Bing search the whole web, so they also find store pages, wikis and fan posts that name the series. That is why a colour panel often does better on Lens, while a scanned black-and-white page does better on SauceNAO.
For webtoon strips, the manhwa finder starts with the colour engines for you. The Google Lens vs SauceNAO comparison shows where each one wins.
What MangaTrace can't do
MangaTrace has no manga database of its own. It prepares your image and passes it on, so a match depends on the engines. Very new chapters, rare one-shots and heavily edited images can miss everywhere. When that happens, say what you remember instead: genre, setting, what the main character looks like. Find a manga by description turns that into filters and searches AniList.
Engines can also return reupload sites. Use them only to get the name, then check the title on AniList and read it on an official platform.
Your image stays with you
Cropping happens on your device. Nothing is uploaded until you tap an engine, and then the image goes straight from your browser to that engine, not to us. We keep no images and use cookie-less analytics. The privacy policy lists every data flow.
Is it from an anime, not a manga?
A wide, colourful frame with subtitles is usually an anime scene. Our sister site AniTrace finds the anime and episode from a screenshot.

Questions people ask
Is there a free manga finder by picture?
Yes. MangaTrace is free and needs no sign-up. It crops your picture in the browser and hands it to SauceNAO, IQDB, Google Lens, Yandex or Bing, which are free to use within their own limits.
Why does SauceNAO find nothing for my manga panel?
Usually the crop. Text bubbles, watermarks, borders and app bars change the picture too much. Crop to one clean panel and try again. If it still misses, the chapter may not be in its index yet, so try Google Lens or Yandex next.
Can I find a manga from a screenshot on my phone?
Yes. Open MangaTrace in your phone browser, pick the screenshot from your photos or paste it, crop to one panel, and tap an engine. Nothing to install.
Does MangaTrace keep my image?
No. The image is cropped inside your browser and only leaves your device when you tap a search engine. It then goes straight to that engine. We have no image storage.
