About MangaTrace

By Last updated

MangaTrace is a free tool that answers one question: what manga is this? You give it a page, a panel or a screenshot, crop it to the part that matters, and send it to the image search engines that know manga best. A second tool finds a title from what you remember, using genres and tags.

Who makes it

MangaTrace is built and run by Tahir Nazir, a web developer who reads a lot of manga and manhwa. It is a one-person project with no company or investors behind it. The guides are written and tested by the same person, and each one shows when it was last updated.

Why it exists

Fans find panels everywhere: TikTok edits, Pinterest boards, Discord chats, a friend's screenshot. Getting the title usually means trying several reverse image sites, one by one, with an uncropped picture full of app bars and speech bubbles. Most of those searches fail for reasons that have nothing to do with the manga itself.

MangaTrace puts the steps that work in one place: crop to one clean panel, pick the engine that suits the picture, and know what to try next when nothing matches.

How it works

  1. Your image opens and gets cropped inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded at this point.
  2. When you tap an engine (SauceNAO, IQDB, Google Lens, Yandex or Bing), your browser sends the cropped image straight to that engine, which opens its results.
  3. Find by description asks AniList, live, for titles that match your filters. Only non-adult titles are shown.

MangaTrace has no manga database and stores no images. A match depends on what each engine has indexed, so we say plainly in the tool and in the guides when an engine is likely to miss.

What it costs

Nothing. There are no accounts and no paid features. To cover running costs later, the site may show ads, kept away from the tool itself. The privacy policy will say so before any ad code goes live.

Not affiliated

MangaTrace is independent. It is not affiliated with SauceNAO, IQDB, Google, Yandex, Microsoft or AniList, and it does not host or link to unofficial reading sites. When we suggest where to read, we point to official platforms.

The anime sibling

If your screenshot is from an anime, use AniTrace. It finds the anime and the episode from a single frame, and it is built by the same person.
