Privacy policy

Short version: MangaTrace has no accounts, no database and no image storage. Your image stays in your browser until you choose a search engine, and then it goes to that engine, not to us. This page lists every place data goes, so you can check.

Images you search

  • Opening and cropping: happens on your device. When the image is prepared, it is re-encoded in your browser, which also removes hidden photo data such as location (EXIF/GPS).
  • Searching: when you tap an engine button, your browser sends the cropped image directly to that engine (SauceNAO, IQDB, Google Lens, Yandex or Bing) and opens its results. Our server is not involved. From then on, that engine's own privacy policy applies.
  • Copy image and open site: the image goes to your clipboard on your device. You decide where to paste it.
  • Image links: if you paste an image address, your browser fetches that image from the site it lives on.

Optional SauceNAO key (BYOK)

If you add your own free SauceNAO API key to see results on our page, the key is saved only in your browser's local storage. When you search, your browser sends the cropped image and the key to our /api/saucenao endpoint, which passes them straight to SauceNAO and returns the answer. That endpoint does not store or log the image, the key or the results. It exists only because SauceNAO does not allow browsers to read its answers directly. "Forget key" deletes the key from your browser.

Find by description

The filters you choose (type, genres, tags, years, status) are sent from your browser to AniList to get matching titles. Cover images load from AniList's image servers, so AniList sees those requests like any website you visit. Filters also appear in the page address so you can share a search. We do not save them.

Analytics

We count visits with Vercel Web Analytics, our host's built-in tool, and may also use Cloudflare Web Analytics. Neither sets cookies or tracks you across sites. Vercel tells visits apart with a value that resets every day, not a lasting ID. We see totals such as page views, referring sites, browser type and country.

Stored in your browser

  • Your light or dark theme choice (local storage).
  • Your SauceNAO key, only if you add one (local storage).

You can clear both at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel processes standard request data such as your IP address, browser user agent and the page requested, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We do not add to that data or use it to identify you.

Ads in the future

There are no ads today. We may add Google AdSense later to cover costs. Google and its partners may then use cookies to show and measure ads. Where the law requires it, you will see a consent message first, and this page will be updated before any ad code goes live.

Children

MangaTrace collects no personal information from anyone, including children. Search results are filtered to non-adult titles.
